Who Are the US Senators?

If you’re wondering who are the US senators, you’ve come to the right place. Here you’ll find the names and qualifications of senators, as well as details about the various committees they sit on and the stocks they hold. Read on for more information. But first, let’s take a look at the different types of senators. Which one do you think is the most deserving of the job? And which one should you avoid?

List of senators

If you are interested in knowing who your U.S. senators are, you can find their contact information online. Senators generally have websites, and they include their districts and Capitol addresses, phone numbers, biography, and committee and publication memberships. Not all senators have a public email address. To find out more about a particular senator, you can browse the full list of US senators. The following list is organized by state, and you can sort by their intention to vote.

Qualifications to become a senator

The United States Senate is composed of 100 members, each serving a six-year term. Those seeking this position must be at least thirty years old, a US citizen for at least nine years, and a resident of the state in which they seek to serve. Candidates must be able to speak in public without the support of a political party. If a candidate does not have such background, they can still run for the position.

Committee membership

A US senator can serve on several committees. Each committee has a different power level, so senators may serve on more than one committee. They must be at least 30 years old, a U.S. citizen for at least nine years, and a resident of the state they represent. A senator may serve as a ranking member of another committee during their career. The following list explains how committee membership is determined.

Stocks owned by senators

A new KHN report details the stocks owned by U.S. senators, according to public disclosures. A recent Gallup poll shows that 56 percent of Americans own stocks or equities. These investments, which represent partial ownership of a company, can give investors a profit. Investors hope to make a profit on their investment, and sometimes they receive dividend payments. As of early January, at least 220 members of Congress own stocks. That’s more than 40 percent of the Senate. While the ownership of stock has become common, many people are concerned about how political and financial influence stockholders have on our country.

Pay increase for senators

The U.S. Senate approved a pay increase for its members on Friday. The order, contained in 2 U.S.C. SS4571, will take effect on January 1, 2018. Despite a recent downturn in the stock market, the salary for US senators is still higher than the average civilian worker. This increase comes on top of increases to federal employees and the military. However, lawmakers should be careful about taking the president’s pay plan too literally.
